I would definitely recommend this course for a first year who is looking to fulfill the engagements requirement as it does not take up too much of your time but at the same time it is also fun and engaging.
Tite is definitely a funny guy. His sense of humor is hard to understand at times but the work for this course is really light and it is definitely easier than most other engagements. He expects you to read a 10 page piece each week and discuss it in class. Everyone also has to write a sentence or two after class as a reflection sentence which is easy enough. He also tries his best to engage with each and every student and does not force anybody to answer anything unless they want to. The best part about the course is getting to eat the food. We had a delicious Sikh Langar meal and a Spaghetti with meatballs made by the professor. His cooking is excellent and he also encourages students to bring their own food which helps engage in feasting together.
The only con with Tite is that he keeps assignments locked until the day that it is due. Some assignments tend to open at 3 am. He is also very considerate of your health and is more than happy to give you the day off if you are not feeling great.
He also goes out of his way to make sure to accommodate everyone's dietary restrictions. He also manages to incorporate all points of views so people of all faiths feel welcome to share their thoughts and opinions freely in this class.
The final project was pretty straightforward because we just had to visit 2 different places of worship which was nice. We had to make a 10 minute presentation on these visits and describe the relationship between religion and food.
Tite's both an interesting guy and interesting teacher. He's funny, keeps class light-hearted, but also delves into deep and interesting topics. The content is easy and enjoyable if you engage, and the assignments are simple (although their due dates are a little hard to follow since he keeps everything locked until the day of, basically).
