Blaire is a nice person and is always available for help, but I didn't love this class. I took it to be an easy and chill A and it was surprisingly a lot of work. The content was interesting but sometimes her lectures were hard to take seriously. There are two closed note quizzes which were actually pretty difficult. There are a bunch of weekly assignments and the grading on them is very particular so it's easy to lose points. Still easy ish to get an A/A- but you definitely have to work for it.
A fantastic, easy-A, yet useful class. Blaire is a great instructor for the course. She has an energizing personality and really does want you to do well in the class. The class is made up of quizzes and assignments, which were all very straightforward. You get to practice a lot of mindfulness/stress relieving techniques in class. Additionally, there was a group project where you're assigned a "technique" that you have to research and then create an infographic.
Blaire is SO great, nice, and sweet, and she really deserves more than just the review below (though it's pretty accurate). I took this course during summer session 3 through Zoom. Since I did this course as a summer session, I put high amounts for work. However, if you take this over a regular fall or spring semester, it will be very minimal work (no more than 1-2 hours a week at most!). Blaire understood that it can be difficult to get on Zoom University every day for two hours straight, so she made this class like a hybrid and we'd have a mix of synchronous and asynchronous lectures and assignments. I really appreciated this, because I absolutely hated getting on Zoom. She really wants everyone to benefit from the class and learn skills for life, not just worry about their grades. During live classes, we took turns being discussion leaders walking our groups through prompts (which for my group was actually really fun!) or went through stress management techniques led by Blaire. As for the course, there are 275 points worth of assignments. While some assignments like the discussion board posts were graded on a pretty much pass or fail basis, the other assignments like the journals or quizzes or projects could bring your grade down if you aren't careful. Sometimes it can be easy to forget about one detail and lose points that way. Nonetheless, Blaire gave very detailed rubrics for every assignment ever assigned, and she was always happy to answer questions, no matter how seemingly dumb they may have sounded. Additionally, she gave examples of what she was looking for in hopes to secure a good grade. I would say that it's definitely easy to get an A in this course. If you get anything below an A, it's definitely on you and not Blaire because she really put everything out that she could for you to succeed. Getting an A+ was more of a challenge, but definitely doable. There is also a final "quiz" that's cumulative. A few of my classmates expected that the quiz would be graded easily like the discussions posts and didn't really study too well or took it last minute. My advice would be to really study for this and don't just take it blindly. I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone who is struggling with stress management or anxiety to explore a variety of techniques. You definitely need to be open to change though. If you go in thinking that none of this stuff will work for you, you'll feel very uncomfortable during class/assignments and may not be the most fun/interesting for you.
This is a great course! Blaire knows the material extremely well and genuinely cares about all of her students. She goes out of her way to ensure that she can help you succeed in any way possible - helping students get shadowing opportunities in counseling, being flexible with students who have grad school/job interviews, and overall encouraging her students to pursue their dreams. The course is for anyone from any discipline or year. She focuses a lot on stress management techniques, and you are able to practice a new one each class. There is one semester-long group project, but it is enjoyable. There are multiple journal writing assignments throughout the semester, but as long as you answer every question on the prompt, you will get 100. There are also a few quizzes based on lecture and reading material, but if you take notes and complete the readings, you will be fine. Truly a great course that is stress free!! Blaire works to make this course low maintenance because she does not want to cause ANY unnecessary stress - she makes this very clear. Take this class!!
