This was my favorite class that I've ever taken at UVA. Professor Nguyen was a new professor this semester, and I'm so happy she came to UVA. Our class was very small and tight-knit; there were only 9 students. We grew to know each other very well, so it felt very safe and a genuine learning space. Professor Nguyen provided us with everything to learn about citizenship, abolition, race studies, and performance, and I really learned so much. Our class was a 2.5 hour seminar each week, and the long block of time really allowed us to delve deep into the readings and theme of the week. We also spent a lot of time outside when the weather was nice and took field trips. We visited a sustainable farm owned by free blacks and held class at the art gallery Visible Records. The reading was pretty dense, and she assigns a lot of it, but the written assignments were easy. Overall, can't recommend Professor Nguyen or her classes enough! #tCFfall22
#tCFF23 Professor Nguyen is such a sweet and caring professor, and I highly recommend this class. The readings are kind of dense, but you just have to read them for in-class discussion and luckily there are no reading discussion posts. Other than that, she is a fairly lenient grader and the two major assignments (a midterm and final paper/project) are actually really fun if you enjoy creative projects. All in all, this class is really engaging and has a lot of cool guest speakers too. Highly recommend.
