This course was very interesting and Professor Skubby is an amazing teacher and person. With that being said, this course is a lot of work. There are 5 books to read outside of class, a reflection paper on at least two of those books, a 1 page prep sheet for each book, a literature review, two talking points per homework article (usually 2 per class, each anywhere from 7-20 pages), and a final exam. This course also focuses on critiquing the medical model of mental illness, which means this class is pretty much con medication to treat mental illness. The work load gets overwhelming before thanksgiving and winter break, but for the remainder of the year it is fairly manageable. Skubby is a bit of a tough grader as well, but I would not say he is an unfair grader. Overall, I came into this class expecting it to be a lot easier than it was, but I should have know that it would be harder because it is an upper-level course.
