I'd like to begin this review by saying that I recognize that Professor Etienne is a nice guy. I could tell that most of the time he was excited to teach the class and wanted us to participate/learn but unfortunately, this class was extremely boring. At the beginning of the semester, Etienne primarily lectures for the entire class time leaving little room for active participation (not to mention that his accent makes it a bit hard to follow what he's saying). At the middle of the semester, we begin forming groups where we come up with our own business concept and group up so that one person's idea can be the focus for the final project. The entire semester is based on your group development of this project. This class might've been more fun if my group was better (the idea and the people) but it's fine. This class wasn't hard but the things about Professor Etienne that really pulls his rating down is his lack of response and grading time. One, almost none of the assignments I did throughout the course were graded until the very end of the semester which gave us little room to make a comment to Professor Etienne if it was incorrect. Second, Professor Etienne doesn't respond to any emails (I sent him 4 throughout the entire semester and he neither responded nor read them so good luck trying to contact him outside of class). Third, there isn't effective communication about what is due and when it's due. Overall, I recommend trying this class out with another professor because this class is going to leave you doubting whether you'd like to study entrepreneurship at all.
WARNING: You'll need to know at least one other person in this class before taking it. The entire class is a group project. I got lucky a had another decent person in my group. We did 100% of the work for my group. My experience would have been very different had I not had him there.
I liked this class a good bit.
Pros:
- Almost everything is a completion grade
-Everything in the class is really easy
-If you do every assignment and try on the final paper you should get at least an A-
-If you want to check out and play games or browse the internet in class you can definitely get away with it
Cons:
-Good chunk of busywork. Most of it doesn't take too much time to complete tho
-Class is usually pretty boring
-Class is very unorganized. The schedule he has online is wrong just as often as it is correct.
-Class assignment descriptions are often very vague. A lot of times you'll submit something and not know if you did what he wanted you to do
-Readings are behind a paywall
Even though there are a lot of downsides, an easy A at UVA is too good to pass up imo. Take it if you're still interested
I took this class thinking it would be an easy A and I could just get it done quickly for a free entrepreneurship minor. It is safe to say that this was a mistake and I no longer have any desire to pursue the entrepreneurship minor. This class is essentially one group project (a project that could be easily done in a week but gets dragged on for the entire semester) plus a lot of pointless busy-work. Professor Etienne is never very clear with his expectations for assignments, rather, the group project is graded based on "the hustle," or how much effort you put into it. Unfortunately, it is difficult to show "hustle" for a school project I literally do not care about at all with a team that barely puts in minimal effort on the assignments. Additionally, there are these 5-question quizzes every few weeks and each question is worth an entire percentage of your grade. The problem is that the questions are extremely vague and based on subjective topics that we barely discussed in class or in readings. It is extremely unfortunate that some of these questions are literally a flip of the coin and you either get the 1% of your grade or you don't (keep in mind an A is a 95+, so you can only miss 5 out of 30 total quiz questions to get an A).
Needless to say, I am disappointed with my experience in this course and my time and tuition would have been better spent taking almost any other class. If you truly have a passion for entrepreneurship or really want to minor in entrepreneurship, please do not feel discouraged about taking this class as you might like it. I just personally cannot recommend this class or the professor that I took it with.

I highly recommend this class. It's incredibly easy and pretty fun as you just have to create a startup (you don't actually have to make anything for it). There were readings and short one page essays you'd have to write on them, but they really weren't that bad. You just have to meet up with your group and design your project/ do the assignment that you're given. Bevin is also really chill and funny.
