Mme Boutaghou is SO nice and understanding. There are only 4 tests (which she gives you a study guide for), 4 take-home papers, and 1 final paper. Class does get really boring because it's just analyzing readings all semester, so definitely participate to engage yourself as much as possible. Very easy to do well, though. She's a great, funny professor.
One of the most amazing classes I have ever taken. Professor Boutaghou is absolutely fabulous, taking time out of her day to help every student understand the material and showing so much passion for her job. The content is super fascinating, and the tests/essays are relatively simple if you stay on top of readings and historical details. I always felt intellectually challenged in this class, but never to the point that it was detrimental. I gained so much with Professor Boutaghou — this is what academia should be!
This is a pre-requisite for all higher level French classes, so if you're a major or minor you'll have to take it, it is what it is. However, I guarantee that if you have Mme Boutaghou you'll have a good time. She is a rare case where she is both an extremely qualified academic AND she has a gift for teaching and really cares about her students. Extremely kind, always smiling, and generally just wants to see her students succeed and improve their French. Highly recommend.
