Overall, the entire class had a general consensus that John Lyons is a cute old man and a very good professor. Class is fun because he has a good sense of humor. I'd say if you want to master French writing, this is at least the last class you should take. It definitely gives you all the skills and summaries you need to know and not a single person in the class did not find it challenging.
If you took this class in high school, you definitely should not skip this class and should still take it. Higher levels of French don't touch on these writing skills. I know people who skipped this class and so didn't know a lot of grammar rules that were critical to their writing. It is still a challenging class even if you took it in high school. Since the class is mostly focused on grammar, you will just read out of the book and take a quiz every week. Literally every week. However, Lyons gives practice quizzes before hand so he really does prepare you. I actually have never had a better teacher in French.

A lot of people aren't aware of this as a resource. Don't use the translation because it's not as reliable because French, of course, differs in use depending on CONTEXT and a lot of people don't believe me and use the translation anyway. And that ends up with us having to correct where they went wrong - the translation. It's a good site to use to show you good vocabulary, expressions, and how to use a word in its proper context. Use this in your writing!
Lyons makes the exam absolutely heavenly I swear. He gives you all the practice you need and is one of those teachers that let's you know what you need to specifically focus on rather than telling you go study, see you. So his practice quizzes and actual quizzes are all meaningful resources. There is really just nothing bad to say about him. Nothing less to expect of a Yale graduate.
