FREN 2020

Solène was fantastic! You could tell she really cared, and although she is a native french speaker, she never made you feel stupid for making mistakes. She was helpful without being overly critical. She made learning french fun by showing videos and incorporating culture into the class. My biggest criticism of this class was the structuring of assignments, although the French Department is to blame for that. The grade came from weekly VHL assignments, compositions, tests, and a couple small group projects. The work was not overly difficult or long, but we were often not given enough time to complete them. We also had to do a few blog posts throughout the semester, which were kind of pointless but easy. Overall, if you have to take this class, take it with Solène!

Prof. Camus is awesome! She's really relatable and always made us laugh with her questions on American slang. There's a good emphasis on conversation and vocabulary. VHL is not difficult either. Just do your work and review for tests well. The one drawback is the e-portfolio. It's done with WordPress and takes too much time to be done efficiently. Nonetheless, this is a great course!

I loved Solène's class! She is a fantastic teacher. She's very funny and interesting. Her lectures make learning the language easy and she's very encouraging about speaking in class. She really wants you to learn the language. There was a fair amount of homework, but no more than other classes. She made me want to continue with French even though my requirement was done. Would highly recommend.
