How to describe this semester of Organic Chemistry lab? Put some stuff in a flask and set in on a hotplate, wait 2 hours. That sums up the actual lab component. Prelabs are easy. For postlabs, go to office hours for help if needed. Usually there's 1-2 questions that are pretty tough. This semester, Welch had "experimental sections" on each postlab where you had to write a quick summary of the procedure and result of the experiment. Pretty easy as long as you don't mess up the format, but kind of subjective of the TA's interpretation. 1 midterm and final exam (because some people were complaining about the difficulty and weight of just 1 final exam last semester). Neither was that difficult as long as you studied. Overall, there was much better overlap between the lab and lecture components of Orgo, which was very nice. Even the timing was pretty on point. I hope you are good at NMR because that's pretty much all we did on a lot of postlabs and the exams.
Very low maintenance lab. Lecture was not needed, although Prof. Welch noticed the very low attendance and I suspect he'll do something to change that. Lab itself never took the whole time, and was biweekly. Prelabs took 30 mins, tedious. Postlabs took about 2-3 hours, including watching several YouTube vids/scanning lecture slides to fully understand the theory. Utilize office hours to find a helpful TA. Final was hard af though, average was a 65 - there was a slight curve to the class. Nowhere near as bad as gen chem lab
