Hi! I LOVE French. I plan on majoring or minoring in French, but I had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience with this "teacher." This "teacher" did not even know our names by the end of the course! (I'm not kidding). She was very bad at explaining things and made fun of students when they didn't understand/had questions. She didn't plan the course very well and relied on Supersite to teach us. She was AWFUL. Horrible teacher, horrible woman. DON'T RECOMMEND. ANYONE BUT HER.
I love French but absolutely do NOT take it with this teacher. She doesn't teach. She assigns large amounts of supersite on topics we haven't gone over in class, which I would understand IF we then went over the topic in class but we didn't. She would do a 15 minute review of supersite, half answer peoples questions and then give us group work. Class was incredibly unenjoyable. I taught myself most the semester.
She also says things that many would regard as inappropriate. We were talking about utensils and we used riced as food and said what we used to eat rice with. There was a Chinese girl in our class and she actually said "We have a Chinese in the class. Do you know how to say chopsticks in French?". She also talks about people's grades openly. Once a girl did poorly on an exam and she walked up to the girl and said "You didn't study did you?". That is a conversation that should happen in private not in front of the entire class.
And her grading is incredibly arbitrary and is based on favorites. I had a friend in the class who Sana loved to pick on and call out her mistakes. She received a A- for participation while I received an A but I participated less often and rarely raised my hand. Before we submitted our e-portfolios, we did mock presentations so would could get pointers and she started adding things and making suggestions [read: new requirements] that weren't even on the rubric. I received a 90 on what is clearly A+ work. Take this class with anyone but her.
