Prof. Rey is great! Very nice, helpful, pretty lenient with a lot, and kind of funny. I came in knowing no French and finished the class feeling like I knew a lot. Homework is every day but it's always pretty quick. Four exams and a final, 6 online quizzes, and 3 compositions throughout the semester. Fair grader, slightly on the easier side maybe? All very manageable if you study a decent amount. Part of your grade is participation; you can get a 100 if you answer just a few questions each class. You'll feel a bit swamped before the final with a project, composition, and oral exam (oral exam was the week after Thanksgiving) but it's definitely doable. I studied for this class an average amount and ended up with an A. Overall definitely recommend taking 1010 with Prof. Rey!!
This is a great class for entry level french speakers! There is a lot of work to keep up with, especially since the class meets every day, but I always felt like class time went by fast because it was enjoyable and I didn't really mind the homework assigned. There are a lot of different components that factor into your grade, so you have ample opportunity to get an A.
If you have the chance to take it with Cecile, go for it! She's very kind and actually jokes around a bit. She's from France and she's easy to understand. If you're like me and didn't get your language requirement out of the way in high school, French is the way to go. The homework is manageable. If you put time into it, you can guarantee yourself an A. Try your best to be enthusiastic and enjoy the class, and try to pay attention to pronunciation. Get a group together and collaborate on quizlet!
