Awesome class! One of the most straightforward classes I've ever been in at this school. The lectures are never too dry but never too complicated also so you can really do well in this course even if you are not a math and statistics wizard. I would definitely recommend, you will not have to spend grueling hours studying. 3 tests that were not bad at all- just know the lectures pretty cold. And the project was very straightfoward as well. I would say the weekly quizzes were easy. and the homeworks definitely help in time for the exam.
## This is for Fall 2020, but for some reason CF didn't give me this option to select.
This is a great stats elective for anyone pursuing the stats major for a plethora of reasons. Primarily, this is a pretty easy course. The grade breakdown is as follows: 20% weekly quizzes, 20% midterm 1, 20% midterm 2, 20% final, 20% group project. The weekly quizzes are 5 MC questions and are literally so easy-- they took me 3 mins to complete and I got 100s on all of them, they come straight from lecture slides. Midterms and finals are also pretty simple-- just review your notes. He gives optional HW that he doesn't collect or grade, but he also releases the solutions. I never did them, but would look over the answers before exams to get a gist of what to expect/ how to write notation which was super helpful. The group project also isn't a lot of work. R is utilized in this class almost every lecture to supplement material, but you never have to code for exams; it's just nice to see how to apply the tests we learned in class to actual data sets. Also, I found this class super unique and useful. Basically, this is the course that teaches you how to perform statistical tests when you can't assume certain parametric assumptions regarding your sample data. Every lecture is basically a new type of non-parametric test and just goes through how to perform/ carry out the test/ when you would use them. There really aren't any proofs in this class; sometimes he'll show a "mini proof" on how some test statistics / distributions are related, but they're mostly trivial. Overall, this is a great class taught by a great professor that isn't hard to do well in. Can't really ask for much more. Plus, Justin is a cool guy and likes to talk about basketball a lot (he's particularly young) so he's extremely chill.

Professor Weinstock really knows how to teach his courses and do so in a way that is concise but also teaches you exactly what you need to know. I never felt there was a time that I was lost because his slides are really well organized and his lectures really well explained. The homework and tests are really straight forward and he says that he doesn't pull any tricks which is nice. I would really recommend this class because not only did I learn a lot, but also enjoyed the class thoroughly.
If you are looking for a stat elective to take, I cannot recommend this class more! Justin is an absolutely amazing instructor, and if he ever taught another class I would take it in a heartbeat. He is so organized, and lecture slides for the next class are usually posted soon after the previous class. His homework turn around time is sometimes same day, and grades exams in less than a week. The class consists of weekly homework, which is never more than 3 problems (took me max 2 hours/week), three exams, and a partner project. All of these assignments were extremely manageable, and he gives a ton of guidance on the project. Additionally, you get a letter size sheet front and back for every exam, which is more than enough to write everything from the lectures down. The class can get a little boring with hypothesis test after hypothesis test, but Justin does his best to have interesting examples, and understands when things get a little dull. This class might be a little more difficult if you have no experience with R, but Justin posts example code from everything we do in class and it is well commented. Overall, I could not recommend this class more!!
Statistics majors - fall 2019 will be the last time Justin teaches STAT 3480 before he graduates with his PhD. Justin says he doesn't know who will teach STAT 3480 after he leaves or if the class will even be offered again soon. I would highly recommend taking this class with Justin while you have the chance! He is an energetic and caring instructor who will go out of his way to help you when you ask. The class material is interesting, and Justin's examples can be pretty entertaining (especially during basketball season). There are small weekly homework assignments, three exams (not cumulative), and a final project. The workload is very manageable , and it is easy to get a good grade if you put the effort in.
