NO NO NO NO NO. Please love yourself and do not take this class. Professor Williams teaches 6 lectures then the rest of the class the students lecture. Two people present for an 1 hour and 15 minute period (which is incredibly hard and nerve racking). Each person does 2 of these hellish presentations which is bad enough. IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH.... The midterm for this class was INSANE. The midterm was the worst and most time consuming assignment that I have ever done in my entire LIFE. The average number of pages was about 30 (SINGLE SPACED!!) but there was a student in our class who's midterm was 40 pages. The midterm took me well over 40 hours to complete and ruined my ENTIRE life for 3 weeks. Professor Williams was not very helpful during this course and at times was a bit mean. He expects his students to know the material just as well as he does and he simply has unrealistic expectations. Many students cried after their presentations and meetings with him. Overall, the material in this class is interesting and cool but I am SO HAPPY to be done with this class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. PLEASE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Nope. Would highly not recommend. This is by far the most difficult upper-lev PSYC course I've taken and it is not worth it. Don't let the grade distribution fool you, Cedric only hands out a few A's in the class of 25.
The class is two group presentations, a midterm, and a final term paper. Group presentations take up the entire class (75 mins) and in order to receive a good mark, you need to meet with Cedric at least 2-3 times in his office hours to run by your entire presentation. The presentations are complex since you're tasked with teaching the class.
The midterm was shockingly difficult and took quite a long time. Mine was 22 pages single spaced -- one girls went up to 30 pages single spaced (he's big on single space.) He joked in class that 'quality of papers typically correlate with weight' as he tossed them into a bag he has. It was tedious...not the most difficult, but given the amount of time invested into this assignment, I would recommend another course.
The final term paper is ten to fifteen pages single spaced and is graded fairly harshly. Cedric expects graduate level work for an undergraduate course, which is especially difficult since he only teaches six lectures and the rest of the semester, the courses are taught peer-to-peer via these presentations.
This one's a hard no, as I hope it is for you too after reading this. Not to mention, Cedric made myself along with other students incredibly uncomfortable with his offhand comments.
Professor Williams is such an intelligent and helpful professor. Because the course is a 4000 level neuroscience class, I was nervous to take it, but he does everything he can to make sure you succeed in his class. There are 2 class presentations (2/3 people per presentation), a take home midterm, and a final 10-15 page paper. The presentations took a lot of effort, but they were worth it because the topics were very interesting and you're in charge of teaching the class so that's pretty motivating. And I hate giving presentations, but Williams made sure I understood the material I was presenting on, and I did well so I was excited to start researching for my second presentation. The midterm took a long time and so did the final paper, but you'll do well in the class if you put in the effort and visit him during office hours because he basically tells you what to do to earn an A. Such a great class. Wonderful professor and interesting material.
