To be completely honest, Aynne Kokas terrified me at first. The readings were difficult, class group work a little stressful, and I felt out of place in the class despite loving asian cinema. She will call you out in class to answer a question if she notices you are not participating to the full extent in group work. Perhaps this is what motivated me to actually thoroughly do the readings and take notes. Talk to her a couple times after a class, show you are interested, work hard and you are good to go. The class is slightly reading-heavy at the beginning, but evens out with lots of films to watch. Class discussions are fun and low pressure, and she is very helpful if you just ask. I highly recommend taking her class, especially if you interested in the political relationships between countries and film co-productions.
