This was probably my favorite class I've taken at UVA--cannot recommend it enough! Everette Fortner is amazing and all of the TAs and other involved staff were incredible as well. Though the class isn't "difficult," it puts you on a great track connecting with alumni and taking the necessary steps to score an internship/job. The class requires a great deal of busywork, but you realize that all of it is actually very helpful in the long run. You make a LinkedIn page, draft cover letters, and craft and perfect your resume among other things.
Easy A! A lot of busy work though. As long as you do the assignments and turn them in on time you will be fine. I took this class first year and it helped me to start thinking about life after college. The class is all about you (e.g what your interest are, how you work in a team, what careers interest you, etc). Professor Fortner is a great resource as he is the director of the UVA Career Center and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend this class.
Incredibly easy class. 90% graded for completion. Fortner is great, he just wants you to do well and to find your path in life - what this class is all about. Its nearly entirely based on introspection and so a lot of people do VERY well in this class as you are graded based on your thoughts about yourself (you literally cannot be wrong). Grade is about 20% participation/attendance, 20% homework, 20% group project that took our group 3 hours to complete for an A, 20% blog posts, and 20% final exam which is just making a portfolio of all the work you have completed thusfar. Likely will be one of the only A+'s I get at UVA. Take this class, easy A, low workload, actually useful. But make sure you SHOW UP
Professor Fortner's class is a fantastic way to dive into the career center's resources and figure out how to make a plan for your life. You take personality tests, write A LOT of self reflections, read articles and books about career advice, listen to speakers in a wide variety of fields, attend the career fair, write resumes, and write plans for career paths. Professor Fortner is the nicest guy, and he wants to help everyone in the class find their way. Do not mistake this for a blow-off class, though. If you do ALL the work and put in sincere effort, you'll get an A, but there are A LOT of assignments and requirements of outside events to participate in. There were a lot of weeks where I did more work for this class than any other of my "real" classes, but I felt it was worth it in the end.
