Such an important class which everyone should take in my opinion! Really good for a basic yet comprehensive review of good health and health practices. Prof. Edwards is also a very patient and kind professor and he really knows what he's talking about. The grading scale is not too bad either but you will have to put work in - especially in the case studies.
This class was great! It was really interesting and was not a lot of work at all. I learned a lot and the projects were fun (reflections). There is no final, instead just 5 quizzes which were not bad. Easy A in my opinion if you put in the work, and it is a great balance between public health and science. Dr. Edwards can get boring sometimes, but I was extremely passionate about the material, so I was able to pay attention. This is great class to take if you want a chill class that you can still get things out of!
This was a pretty easy A. Your grade is based off a point system. There were a good bit of PollEverywhere questions at the start of the semester (Worth 150 points) but Prof Edwards stopped using them about halfway through the semester. There are a lot of in-class assignments that were typically due at 11pm the night they were assigned (each one was worth around 12 points by the end of the semester). There were five module quizzes (each worth 60 points) and if you go back through the powerpoints all the information on the quiz is in the slides. The quizzes were pretty common sense most of the time with some basic definition questions. There were also two papers (Each worth 200 points) and I feel like only one of mine was graded harshly but it was not a make or break situation. There is no textbook required for the course which was really nice and he provided zoom links if you were ill and couldn't come to class in person. I really recommend this course and it is nice grade booster. #tCFfall2021
I loved this course! It is not an "easy A" course, but if you put in the work, you will get an A. The format of the course for this semester was lectures and in-class assignments that were due at midnight after class. There were 5 quizzes that were each around 15-20 questions -- if you pay attention in lecture and study, you'll be fine! There were also 2 3-4 page reflection papers. If you put in effort and followed the rubric for the papers, you'd be fine. Dr. Edwards is a fantastic professor. He's one of the few professors who genuinely cares for his students' well-being. He offered a zoom option for every class if you weren't feeling well. If you need an extension or have accommodations, he's one of the few people who does not need extra information or will ask questions. I highly recommend taking this course!

This was an easy but interesting kinesiology course. The online format consisted of live class on Tuesday (opportunity to miss 3 and still be okay) then recorded lectures posted Thursday. Tuesday’s ended up being more of a small group setting, but you got to discuss the previous Thursdays lecture. I recommend taking this course with Edwards, he’s great and you’ll feel comfortable talking to him!
I would recommend this class with a few precautions. I think this semester (S19) was a little strange because Edwards suspected cheating on our first exam so he rewrote all of the questions for our second test and added a few short response questions. This test threw everyone through a loop so he made our final all multiple choice. As a non-stem major it took extra effort on my part to understand things that came easy to the bio/kine majors, but I was able to pull off an A by never missing class and starting early on the study guides. I would recommend going to every lecture because his slides are not detailed enough for you to complete the study guides/know what's really going on without his accompanying commentary. Write everything down! Edwards is OK as a professor, but he isn't always on the ball. He is very nice and kept lectures engaging, but our writing assignment had to be pushed back because he forgot to give us the instructions. There were other moments throughout the semester where I felt he didn't realize how his actions affected us. I regretted signing up for this class as an "easy A" a few times throughout the semester, but if you're willing to put in the work and pay attention I'd say it's hard to do worse than an -A.
LOVE this class. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in the health field. It's an easy class in terms of the work required out of you. There are 2 (or 3?) tests + a final, and 3 or 4 short essays (2-3 pages and really easy) throughout the semester. Professor Edwards is really nice and a good lecturer. The material can get a little dry at times but a lot of it is fascinating and VERY applicable to your daily life. Honestly, this class inspired me to get serious about exercising again. It's not entirely necessary to go to class because he doesn't take attendance and posts the slides online, but I would recommend going. His slides can be vague and are often of charts/graphs of data that he explains in class. Going to class also just helps keep you organized & on track with the course as a whole. I know a few people who rarely went to lecture, and while they were able to roughly pull it together before exams, it was much more stressful and confusing for them. So, just go to class. You'll be better off in the long run. Overall, highly recommend this class if you're looking for a relatively easy health-oriented class that's applicable to your life.
I thought this course was fine. The lectures can be a little dry, and Professor Edwards can be rather confusing at times while trying to explain concepts, but it's relatively easy information. The tests are all multiple choice but are not super easy, so definitely prepare for those. I didn't go to lecture very often and still manage to get As on the reflections and tests. An easy A in my opinion.
Edwards is great and super nice. Really cares about his students. Good class, but its not as easy as people say. I took this class this semester because I have a really hard course load for my engineering major and wanted a class that didn't require a lot of me... I drastically underestimated my ability to do well without doing much. Going to class is a MUST, and lectures are pretty boring, which is not a great combination. Despite this, if you go to class and pay attention for the 75 minutes 2 times a week, you will get an A. Don't do what I did and underestimate the amount of work you need to put into this class. Its an easy class, but you can't skate through. Getting a C on the first exam was a real wake up call, and now I'm forced to work hard for the rest of the semester to save my grade.
This was the easiest class I have ever taken at UVA. No lie. I never went to class because he posts the slides and this information is pretty self explanatory if you are interested in health at all/have any prior exposure to health topics. 4 Reflections throughout the semester are worth 10 points each and could be completed within an hour or two. If you're looking for an easy A TAKE THIS!!!!!
Professor Edwards is such a nice man, 10/10 recommend any class taken with him, but I will say his class lectures are pretty boring. Most people do not come to class because he posts the lecture slides online for the tests. However, some things on the study guide for the test can only be answered by what was said by him in class. His slides aren't very detailed. Tests are multiple choice and true/false online collab. You don't need the textbook for this class. You have 4 reflections due, these are pretty spread out and really easily to do.
Professor Edwards is a great guy. This class is not particularly difficult. However, it is not as easy as everyone makes it seem. You have to work to get the A, but it is definitely doable. The first exam was a lot harder than the next two so definitely do well on the first one or you may have to study really hard for the midterm and final.
This course is absolutely fantastic. Professor Edwards explicitly talks about how he wants this to be a class that anyone from any discipline can take. There is barely any homework. You have 5-6 quizzes throughout the summer on assigned readings, but that is the only time you have to complete these readings. We also had 4 reflections to write, and if you followed the rubric, you got 100. He is SO generous and makes this class so manageable. Additionally, he thought the average on our midterm was low (80%), so he gave us the option to add 10% back to our midterm score if we did well on the review material on the final. You learn a lot in lecture that is applicable to your daily life and interesting. If you are looking for an easy class that is not that much work but v interesting, then please take this!!!
Laid-back and enjoyable course about basic health issues of today's society. As a pre-med student, it got a bit dull sometimes since I've been exposed to a lot of this information in previous courses, but it was nice way to give me some much-needed, low-stress credits this semester. Professor Edwards is very enthusiastic and approachable guy.
For those in the course, I have one piece of advice. Most of the work in the course is pretty relaxed, so you might not take the midterm too seriously (like I did), and although it wasn't disastrous, it's certainly making studying for the final more intense. Don't get cocky, and study well for that midterm. It'll make life easier for you.
This class was good but deceivingly difficult. The class consisted of a midterm (25%), individual reflections (20%), quizzes (20%), peer evaluations (5%) and the final (30%). While most of the assignments were easy, the exams were VERY specific and tricky it required more than a just understanding the concepts and required that you knew tiny bits of information that were largely irrelevant and hard to remember as the exams covered so much content. This class can be a good grade booster if you keep up with the work but don't expect an easy A.
I definitely recommend this class if you want a nice boost to your GPA. The class consists of 2 midterms (each worth 25%), the final worth 30%, and four reflections worth a total of 20%. There was no real homework besides the reflections and the tests were very easy as long as you looked over the PowerPoints and did the study guides that were given. The added bonus in this class was that the final could replace the overall exam section of the grade and be worth 80%, while the 4 reflections make up the rest of the grade which gives you a cushion in case you do no perform too well on one of the midterms. Dave Edwards was an awesome professor and really made the class enjoyable.
There is no homeowrk- and I strongly recommend this class if you are interested in health related things. It is super easy, but also just important to be reminded of the scientific reasonings for why healthy behavior is required. Strongly recommend to take before you graduate and enter "the real world" so you can take this knowledge with you. #tcf2016
