Take this class, no reason not to. Sure, not every lecture was a knockout, but several of them were super impactful in my opinion. Even the ones that were less interesting to me personally provided a window into a subject area with which I'm unfamiliar, and it was just cool to see what's going on in different sides of UVA. Check in out! #tCFF23
#tCF2020 This is a 1 credit CR/NC course that is simply based on attendance! The speakers vary each semester, but they can have very interesting talks or very boring talks. I thought the most interesting was by Professor Ed Murphy, on astronomy. Overall, though, this is a nice chill class that I would highly recommend taking if you're interested in hearing about topics outside your major!
This is a 1 credit pass/fail course with no work at all except coming to class and sending one thank you email to a speaker - almost everyone who takes the class is a fourth year. I had really high hopes for this course, and I almost tried to stop coming to lectures because the first half of the speakers were trash, but I'm glad that I didn't because the second half of the speakers were awesome. Its unlikely that the same lineup of speakers will come to lecture for another semester of this class, the professors will probably be totally different, but I would recommend this class if you and a few of your friends have a spot open.
I had high hopes for this class, but unfortunately it kind of turned out to be a waste of time. We did have a few interesting lectures, most notably by Dean Groves (who talked about the financing of UVA and then did a long Q&A) and Sherri Moore, who talked about our legal rights and responsibilities relating to job contracts, leases, interactions with police when drinking, etc. Far too many lectures by biology professors who just presented one day's worth of material from their class (such as the very minute details of genetics and oncology). Still, absolutely no work, so if you're willing to sit and listen to a random lecture once a week its an easy 1 credit.
