This is not a chronological history of UVA; rather, it involves weekly guest speakers lecturing on their respective areas of expertise with regards to the historical UVA. The guest speakers are generally excellent, as are their lectures. There was a degree of overlap between them, especially around the period of the late 60s/early 70s (It should be noted that the guest lectures vary from semester to semester). While von Daacke was one of the guest lecturers, the course is really "taught" by two undergraduate course facilitators (yes, they are UGuides). The class meets once a week for a one-hour lecture. Grading for this one-credit course is CR/No CR, with your grade depending on three factors: attendance at lecture (allowed one unexcused absence), completion of three 2-page papers (chosen among a variety of prompts, graded on a pass/fail basis) and attendance of an historical tour at UVA. This past semester also featured an optional but free field trip to Monticello, which is pretty awesome. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in UVA's history who is looking for a fun & easy way to earn course credit!
