Professor Keefe is a delightful professor who really knows and cares about the material. Her lectures and activities are a bit repetitive and sometimes dry, but she really cares about her students and makes sure that the whole class understands the material. Sometimes, she would let us use iPads she brought to the class in order to replicate film techniques; that was very fun. There are two weekly forum posts and you are required to watch one film per week. There are a few, short projects throughout, as well; they take about an hour each, I'd say. Some of the films are a bit harder to acquire, but most of them can be found on Virgo or are posted by the professor herself. I've never had to rent a video from the library. The final exam was online and fairly easy. Overall, I would recommend this course to someone who wants to take an easy class at UVA with a good professor.
An interesting topic, the course is engaging and different. You really get to know the people in your class since there's only around 20 students. The activities are a bit excessive and a bit juvenile but you learn regardless, and group work is common which is cool. You can't really be wrong because a lot of it is individual interpretation. The class definitely helped me improve my speaking skills and come out of my shell in regards to working with groups compared to individual assignments. I would recommend this class to any major or year. Keefe is really nice but can sometimes be a bit intense. She is very welcoming but expects a lot from her students although nothing puts her off more than when you don't show up to class. So, as long as you show up and actually did the homework (watch the assigned movie + read an article or 2 then write 2 one-paragraph forum posts) and look interested, you will get at least a B+ if not higher.
