Although not as exciting of a topic as the other core EVSC classes, Professor Reidenbach makes it as interesting as possible. The class is very physics/math heavy, but I did not find it too hard. Grades are composed of about six homework assignments (15% total), two midterm exams (25% each), and a final exam (35%). The homeworks can take a bit of time (the lowest one was dropped), but the example problems he does in class are quite helpful for them and also for the exams, which is why I recommend attending lecture. While sometimes boring, I found the most useful things in lecture to be the example problems he wrote out on the blackboard, which were not included in the lecture slides (which he did post online). The midterms and final are composed entirely of physics/math problems (algebra based, no calculus), but they are take-home which is very helpful. You can tell Professor Reidenbach cares a lot about what he teaches (and his coral reef research!) and is very flexible and helpful when I have gone to him with questions. Overall a pretty chill class with a passionate, helpful, and great professor, just be prepared for lots of math and attending lecture since it is the best way to do well. #tCFS24
Professor Reidenbach is incredibly nice, funny, and charismatic. My semester has a pretty small class (about 30 people) so he gets to know us and our names. Exams are all open book, open note, but closed internet. They used to be in a different format, but now all 3 exams (the final included) are take home. We have 7 homework assignments throughout the semester he gives anywhere from 5 days to a week to complete, also open book, and you can use a calculator or Excel. The textbook is helpful, but not crucial to your success in the class, but Matt teaches in order of the book so it can be helpful if you miss a day or two.
Prof Reidenbach makes everything extremely clear both in terms of content and in terms of course expectations. Is probably the best EVSC prof I've had so far- will be trying to take another class with him next year. HW and exam materials are well covered in class and in the textbook, which I would argue is extremely helpful and am very glad I bought. Overall is a great class and a great prof #tCFspring2021
I can't believe I didn't review this class last year. Two semesters have since gone by, and I can't remember all of the details, so I'm only going to comment on what is still with me. First off, Reidenbach is a TERRIFIC professor. Thoroughly enjoyed his lectures, and he really presents hydrology in an approachable manner. Not crazy calculus-intensive, but if you at least are familiar with integrals and dy/dx you're in good shape. I strongly recommend taking this course with Reidenbach. The exams are tough, but he lets you bring in a 'cheat sheet', which is an excellent study method in and of itself, and super helpful for the exam. Lots of partial credit, the homeworks prepare you for the exams, grading is fair, all around a really good course! I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars.
One of the best professors to take hydrology with! He gives problem sets for homework that he encourages group work on and often goes over how to get the answers in class. For the exams he allows you to bring in a formula/cheat sheet that you can write whatever you want on. He's super nice and really helpful in office hours too!
Reidenbach is a great professor. He is an excellent and organized lecturer, and posts power points online (although its best to go to class because he does helpful example problems on the board). He gives a homework set about every 2 weeks, which are pretty manageable for the most part. He bases his exams mainly on homework problems and sometimes in class examples. Very helpful during office hours as well! #tcf2016
Professor Reidenbach really cares about if you understand everything and recognizes the things that are more difficult to understand and spends time on them. It can get boring when he reviews the same topics three classes in a row, but at least you know the material. The homeworks were more or less weekly and were sometimes easy and sometimes took some thought but he does plenty of practice problems in class and reviews for the tests.
There is math in this class but if you take it with Reidenbach he allows you to have cheat sheets for the exams and final. His exams however do take two hours to complete and he makes them to go the full 2 hours. He hands out problem sets to do and as long as you go to class, take good notes, and read the book you will be fine. One bad problem set grade will not hurt you.
