Dr. S is first and foremost very sweet and understands that CHEM is an intimidating college course to take. But she is always available for help and does a great job at explaining things or slowing down if you need during lecture. Overall, this class in terms of exams and assignments is not difficult at all, and everything is sat out for you if you just keep up with the homework; you'' literally have everything you need for exams.
This class was really easy at first because it was all material from basic high school chemistry. As soon as it got into organic chemistry, though, it got really hard. Samonina would do really simple examples in class but the homework would be much harder and led to me needing to google a lot. Once I understood it, though, I enjoyed it. There are short pre-class and post-class assignments for every class, weekly homeworks, weekly quizzes, and three exams. The quizzes and exams are very similar to the homework so if you do and understand the homework you will be fine. I finished with an A in this class. Overall its not the most interesting but you'll get through it.
If you took any type of higher level chemistry during high school, this class will be a breeze. Dr. Samonina was an amazing professor, and if you ever needed any help her TA's would be there whenever you needed them! There is a lot of weekly work to do (pre/during/post class activities, quizzes every friday, homework and weekly journals), but none of it was very time consuming, especially if you paid attention during class. It was a really easy A and I would recommend this course for anyone interested in chem & how it relates to the body!
