This class is not worth taking. It seems simple but the grading is so subjective. You have to literally memorize every piece of information in the class to an A. Getting a B or B+ is pretty easy but because of the lack of structure of the class (there are no words on the lecture slides just images) it is just too much work. For both the final and the midterm you will get graded off for spelling an artists name or the artwork's name wrong which I find to be unfair and unnecessary. That being said, the class is interesting if you actually like art but other than that its just memorization and hoping that your TA is not a harsh grader. There are in class lecture quizzes so go to every lecture. Professor Higginbotham gave two in a row the week of us winning the NCAA championships so go to every lecture and don't expect any leniency from the Professor or the T.A's.
This is a great class, but do not be fooled, it is a LOT of work. Get ready to study your butt off for the final because there is a TON of information to memorize. That being said, I still learned a lot and enjoyed the class. It's super interesting, but do not take it if you are looking for an easy A. Our grade only consisted of 2 papers, a midterm, a final, and attendance.
Higginbotham is a great teacher who is always funny and energetic. Her lectures are interesting and fun to attend. The material of this class is great. Attendance is not mandatory during lectures although there are 6 random writing assignments at the start of class to check attendance throughout the semester. Your grade consists of 3 papers, participation during discussion, a midterm and a final. Higginbotham is awesome and this is definitely my favorite art history class thus far. I highly recommend!
