Be ready to read more each week than you ever have in your entire life. I would recommend this class to anyone who is HEAVILY interested in environmental science. If you're not, DON'T TAKE IT! The teacher is good and the material is interesting but the class is by no means easy. My TA was awesome though and it is definitely possible to handle the workload if you have a passion for the subject.
This is a difficult class. If you're interested in the topic don't shy away, but don't be fooled by the 200-level label. She teaches the material well and accurately, and expects you to remember details from lectures as well as keep up with an unusually large level of reading. Definitely learned a lot, and worked a lot.
Lots of reading. I choose to skip large amounts of it, and now I definitely regret that decision. Viv comes off very cold, but if you get her one-on-one/are an ETP major, she's much nicer. Classes are LONG (2 hours once a week), but the material is essential is your are interested in environmental policy
The tests did not test knowledge of overarching themes - too many objective questions requiring students to recall small details buried in hundreds of pages of reading. Thomson kept me interested most of the time but it's hard to sit through 2 hours of rapid fire information (be prepared to take lots of notes, she doesn't allow laptops). My TA/discussion group was mediocre.
