PHS 3825

I rewatched evey lecture prior to quizzes and spent days studying for the final! I ended with an A and think it was due to this time but also Paige is a great and understanding professor. She is kind and warm hearted. I highly recommend this class for anyone. Lots of group work and discussion. #tCF2020. I am a PHS major and loved it.

Professor Hornsby is a great instructor, very nice, and genuinely cares about her students. The course itself is very much so a survey class of global public health, but it exposes you to a lot of the field. There's at least one reading per class, and there's an assignment due once a week pertaining to the readings. You also work with a group throughout the semester to discuss what is taught in class and work on a project together, which ends up being your final presentation. There are three quizzes and a final, all of which are open note. Overall, the course is interesting, and Professor Hornsby is great! #tCF2020

Professor Hornsby is delightful and charming. If you are looking to go into the field of public health, I recommend talking to her because she is very helpful! About the course, you barely need to do anything to get an A. Whether you learn anything from it is up to you. The content is not challenging, but she really pushes you to engage in groupwork and apply knowledge. It's kind of nice, because if you are a GPH major, the intent of this introductory course is NOT to weed you out, unlike every other major in this school. But on the other hand, I wish it had been just a bit more challenging.

This class is almost identical to the material in PHS 3050 taught by Professor Hornsby as well. I wouldn't recommend taking this if you took any other class with her. Lots of busy work and you don't learn very much.

This class was very informative but I found it harder than her intro class. Hornsby engages students and loves to teach and is always there is you have a question. The class is formatted so every Thursday's lecture corresponds to a Tuesday group discussion on a case study. Each Tuesday a different group presents on a topic related to the case study of the week. I found the presentations often boring but its an easy way for her to make sure all students are engaged. Do all the readings and look through her powerpoints for the quizzes. Midterm and Final were made up of a lot of short answers and MC.

Another great class of Paige Hornsby's. It's formatted incredibly similar to her Intro to Public Health, so if you enjoyed the format and the setup of that class, you will most certainly enjoy this one. The tests improve a little bit though because there are more short answer free responses for more subjective questions. Also, you hear neat stories from Professor Hornsby's time in the Peace Core. If interested in Global Health in any way, take this!
