ECON 4380

This is hands down the best class I have ever taken at UVA. Larry Kochard is the man! He runs UVIMCO (the UVA endowment) and is one of the smartest guys on campus. The class consists of reading HBS case studies and discussing them . There aren't any quizzes, just a final (opinion based) and a group project where you have to pitch an investment idea to him and other members of UVIMCO. The project takes up a ton of time at the end of the semester but you get a lot out of it. The over arching theme in this class is investment management, but you get the chance to learn about private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, fund of funds, mutual funds, and activist investors. Super interesting! Closest thing thing to a commerce school class in the economics department.
