This was my get work for other classes done class! The lectures are boring and you don't need to pay attention to them at all. When you write your paper just look back at the slides and then research the rest of the info. This was a really weird class because every two weeks you had to do a group presentation about topics that had nothing to do with architecture history. It was really annoying and you don't get any grades on your presentations immediately so you basically have no idea what your grade is or how to improve at all until you receive your final grade for the class. Tbh I think it was a bit of a waste of time, but if you like economics this class would probably be interesting to you.
This class could be extremely interesting, however it is just not. The lectures revolve around economic theories and then a few architecture buildings are thrown into it to give the semblance of an architecture class. Shiqiao Li is really smart and well spoken, it just seems he would be a better fit in teaching an Econ class than world contemporary architecture. The class has two main essays, the first with a few prompts and the second of an investigation of a concept that you are interested in from one of the lectures. They are 1500 or 2000 words but it is pretty easy to write them. The lectures are tough to get through, but since you are already there after tectonics there is not much point in leaving. Sometimes he takes attendance, but you can always have a friend do it for you if you are not going. It is helpful to take notes as the slides consist of pictures without any writing, but at the end of the day this class is pretty similar to Waldman's and how well you write your essays determine your grade.
