Take this class if you're looking for an easy GPA booster. Lectures are extremely boring and completely unnecessary. I didn't do any of the readings, ever, and I got an A-. Labs on Fridays are nice because TAs lead practice that are both relaxing and out of context from lectures. Professor Campbell has the best intentions but is an awful lecturer.
This is a cool class. The lectures are interesting and Professor Campbell is a really chill guy. The material even delves into Buddhism which I thought was the most interesting part of the class. Attendance is required though you would even if it wasn't you'd be missing out by skipping these lectures. On Fridays you have a 50 minute yoga session at Slaughter which is the best part of the class. The mid-term consists of multiple choice and term ID based off a study guide. The rest of the grading is a final paper, weekly personal yoga practice logs, and 5 writing assignments over the course of the semester. If you want to take this class it is very easy IF you actually care and come to class with an open mind. I wish we didn't have those quick meditations at the beginning of lecture though because they sometimes put me to sleep.
Seriously one of the easiest classes I've taken! It's definitely not a class where you do nothing, but everything you have to do is really easy and simple. I heard the textbooks are kinda pricey so I'll tell you in advance to save your money. Most of the readings are posted on Collab anyways or you can google them. They seem really long when you open the file but Professor campbell ends up talking about the readings the entire class anyways.
You have to submit a weekly yoga log, attend lab section on fridays, 5 writing assignments throughout the semester that are like 2 paragraphs each. theres 1 mid-term and no final but you do have to write a 5 pg final paper. Basically just pay attention for the 1st half of the course, and then you'll ace the mid-term. That knowledge from the 1st half of the course will be sufficient enough for the final paper.
Professor Campbell is extremely intelligent and really knows his stuff. His lectures are disorganized at times but are interspersed with pearls of exceptional clarity. Naomi is an excellent TA and can be really helpful to talk with after class. You will enjoy going to yoga class throughout the semester and it will have a positive effect on your well-being. Finally, Professor Campbell really wants his students to do well and to understand the information as he makes himself available after class and works with students to fit their schedule. Cool course about a topic most would not be exposed to.
The concepts in this class are way to advanced and abstract to be tackled in the manner that Professor Campbell teaches. He is really knowledgable about the information, but his lectures lack a comprehendible focus. I think he sometimes forgets that many, if not most, people in the course know absolutely nothing about Buddhism, Hinduism or Yoga. I think the lectures are interesting, but his tangents and cadence of speech is way too disordered to understand. I am currently looking at the review sheet for the midterm and I have zero clue where to begin, or how to teach myself this material because it is so complex and broad.
The professor: Professor Campbell knows his stuff when it comes to yoga. He is a very mellow guy. His voice is very calming - so much so that I had a tendency to drift off during his lectures. Even bringing coffee didn't help with this problem. His lectures are very disorganized, and sometimes it felt like he was writing on the board at random. His lectures repeated the reading material. All that being said, he was a very nice and approachable professor.
The course: Not difficult, though you will learn more than you ever knew there was to learn about yoga. The yoga practice was pretty fun.
The TA: Naomi is awesome! She led the yoga sessions on Friday, and she kept them interesting. She's hilarious.
The bottom line: If you have a pretty rough semester and want a breather, take this. The yoga will probably calm you down too.
If you need an easy A, then take this class. There are a lot of readings, but you don't have to do them, because they are covered in class. He does a great job of going over the material, and the rest you can research for the weekly reading responses. There are mandatory yoga discussion sections on Fridays, but they aren't particularly difficult as long as you put the effort in. There is a midterm and a final portfolio, which require some work, but it's minimal, and if you do it right, then you're almost guaranteed a good grade. Naomi was an awesome TA, really funny and approachable. John Campbell was also really nice, but he tends to go off on tangents. Attendance is mandatory, which is the only down part, but my section was later in the day, so it wasn't too difficult to make it to class. I would definitely reccommend this class.
This class was so easy, but it was the absolute worst. Professor Campbell is extremely disorganized making his lectures hard to follow. His readings are also long and unnecessary. He was constantly giving us extensions on things because he was behind due to his lack of organization. His lectures were also very boring and tended to put most of the class to sleep.
