Sidd is extremely knowledgeable and this course is super interesting. One of my favorite Kinesiology requirements I've taken yet. Plus, all tests are open note so it's a very low stress course. Make sure to pay attention to the equations and math he does it class because that is where I got tripped up. Also - you do need to read the textbook. But, again, since I found the coursework interesting, I didn't mind reading the chapters.
Dr. Angadi is an acquired taste and many students may not like him, however, he's extremely knowledgeable and I've learned more about human physiology and practical information in his class than in any other kinesiology dep class. His tone may be more forefront than other kinesiology professors but he does care/wants to make sure that everyone is grasping the content. In terms of class format, attendance is mandatory (tophat attendance code + questions), however, I personally don't think it's bad (coming from someone who loves to skip class) because Professor Angadi is engaging and what he talks about is super intersting. The exams are not bad at all and the averages are pretty high.
This course would probably be a lot better if someone else was teaching it. The content seems like simplified things in exercise physiology that are made to be more difficult by the way they are taught. Sidd's teaching style is just talking at you for 90 minutes, making you feel insignificant, and not providing any room to feel comfortable to ask questions or even answer them because if you are wrong he talks at you to make you feel like an idiot in front of the whole class. He even started to point at students if they didn't answer the question. He rambles on and on, does not follow his slides, and is not very easy to follow during these rambles. He is also a very bad lecturer. He will talk on one slide for 15 minutes, and then literally skip through the following slides because he "already talked about that" in his previous 15 minute rambles. He does not make this a welcoming or enjoyable environment at all. He has made me and a lot of my friends feel like we can't ask questions because we will be made to feel lesser than. He also makes a lot of absolute statements like "exercise doesn't work". If you don't have to take this class don't.
I would only recommend taking this class if you are a KINE major (I mean , it's required, so you kinda have to). The class itself is really not that bad. Attendance is mandatory and is factored into your grade. Each class, there are clicker questions that can honestly make or break your grade depending on how well you do on them, but they are not very hard. There are four exams throughout the semester with an option final - at least in Fall 2021, all exams were online and open note. As for the professor, this is where I feel conflicted. Dr. Anghadi is extremely smart - that becomes obvious early on in the class. The only problem is that he can be quite condescending and it often seems like he gets joy out of making people feel stupid. He is also not really compassionate about extenuating circumstances. I had the flu and missed class and because of this, I got 20 points taken off my grade for not answering the clicker questions. When I spoke to him about my absence (an excused one for illness), he refused to offer any points back, dragging my grade down significantly. To me, the information presented in this class was essentially what you get out of a biology class but a little more geared towards exercise. #tCFfall2021
Dr. Angadi is probably the most intelligent professor in the Kinesiology department. It is very apparent that he has a very in-depth understanding of the material in class. The class is a little bit dense, but if you read the articles that he assigns for homework and pay attention in lecture, you will do well. The exams were open note but definitely require studying. The exams were reasonable, as he would test on concepts from lectures and the assigned research articles. I would recommend going to office hours and getting to know this professor. If you complain about this class, you probably did not put in the effort to understand the material. The professor also teaches Exercise and Nutrition as Medicine in the Kinesiology department, which is less physiology heavy than this course. If you aren't taking Ex Phys as the major requirement, the previously mentioned class may be a little easier option. Overall, Dr. A has been my favorite professor so far at UVA and I think that any student at UVA could benefit from taking this course.
I don't know if it was because of the COVID online semester, but Dr. Angadi made this class pretty unbearable. He is clearly very knowledgable about the material, but was consistently dry and the lectures progressively got more boring to the point where I couldn't even sit through them. He's also very unapproachable and would always make students feel stupid for being confused or asking a question. I thought the exams and quizzes were fair for the most part, but still required studying even though they're open note. He also has this weird policy about only allowing us to see one question at a time and not being able to go back to it after we move on to the next one. Overall the class sucks pretty bad, but you can still do well and learn some useful things if you put in some time and effort.
