This may be the easiest class I have taken here at UVA. The class consisted of weekly (or once every two weeks) group assignments (which took no more than 30 minutes), 4 paper reflections (which each took an hour, but the assignments could be completed at the very beginning of the semester), a group project, and several quizzes that are graded for completion. The lectures were very interesting and Professor Kranz tried to keep students engaged, but almost nobody actually went to lecture since it isn't really necessary for any of the work in the class (except the quizzes, but those are just completion).
If you are looking for a really easy elective that is interesting, this is a good class to take! #tCFS24
Amazing class, this is one of the only classes where I feel like I actually learned something that I can apply to my daily life/eating habits. I took this class on a whim since I just needed 3 more credits and it was the best decision I have made. And on top of all of that, this class is very easy. If you study for the quizzes you will do well guaranteed. And if you don't do well on a quiz, the lowest quiz is dropped. Lots of interesting info (especially the protein unit if you're into weightlifting) and I highly recommend taking this course!
HIGHLY recommend this class. I am not in Curry and I just took it as a fun and easy class, and it definitely lived up to that. The content was interesting and applicable and she spends a lot of time on food sustainability which I also thought was really good information to learn. Honestly the quizzes could be kind of difficult, but it was evened out by all the other assignments where you pretty much seemed to get a 100 on as long as your group put in effort. They were super chill: 1 page reflection on what you thought of the video/reading split among 4-5 group members took almost no time at all and we got to leave class if we finished early (which was most of the time). #tCFspring2021
I was a bit nervous about taking the course at first because I don't have a science background/major. However, the class is really easy to follow along with and learn the information! The professor is super knowledgeable and open to questions and helping students whenever help is needed. All of the slides are uploaded on canvas and you don't have to attend class since the slides are verbatim for the most part of the lecture. You have to do some mandatory assignments and 4 other ones. You have a lot of options for the other assignments and they're easy and low-stress. The lowest midterm is dropped and as long as you study the lecture notes, they're pretty easy. You can take them online during the 24-hour window at any location. You also don't have to buy the textbook!
I have absolutely no idea how people get below an A in this class. 1000 total points for the semester: 4 "homework" grades, 3 midterm grades, 2 writing assignments about tracking your diet for a week, and 1 group project. With the exception of the midterms every grade is a free 100 and there is a 50 point extra credit at the end of the semester, so you have 750/1000 points essentially gifted to you. All you need to do for an A is average a passing grade on 4 midterms, with the lowest of those 4 grades dropped. If you do well on the first midterm or two, you can pretty much guarantee yourself an A before half the semester is over.
No final + no attendance required although lecture materials sometimes aren't uploaded to Canvas for a while. If you do go to class, it can be a little science heavy (for those who aren't the med school type) but sometimes has useful info about diets and the body. Highly recommend for both people looking for GPA boost and people who take their health seriously. Easiest class I've taken at UVA to date.
