I'll start off by saying this isn't an "easy A" because it is rare to find a class at UVA that is actually an "easy A" (if you want an easy A take Contemporary Health Issues, no lie easiest class ever). Anyway, this was an easier class than most of my others so I'd still recommend it. Ok so the lecture is at 8am which blows and after the third week I bet barely anyone will show up but for those that do I honestly think you are doing yourself a favor and will do better on the exams. For instance: on the first exam which I attended all the lectures prior to I got a 98. On the next exam when I decided that "heck I'm so smart and don't need lecture" my grade dropped to an 83. It just depends on how you study and if hearing the information for one time first in class will help you in the long run. There is one big project which he emphasizes that you "can't wait until the last minute to do" however you can definitely do it the week of and pull out a 100 (which counts as a test grade). Long story short: go to lecture and you'll at least get a B+, highly recommend this course I actually did learn about nutrition
only taught at 8am by perhaps the most monotonous of professors. Nonetheless, Randy is a really nice guy and will lecture DIRECTLY from the slides. Going to class on a regular basis is pointless, but prior to exams is a must. Randy will spit off Q&A's prior to tests like nobody's business and the exams are WORD FOR WORD memorization and I'm talking the tiniest of details. The tests are difficult unless you either truly grasp specifics and have prior knowledge or memorize like crazy. Nonetheless, go to class, study, and get a B.
Overall good class! Randy knows a lot and he's always willing to share us everything! However, I wouldn't recommended to students other than pre-meds. Exams are really specific and hard so I didn't do well. If you're interested in nutrition and you don't need this class to fulfill a requirement, just audit it!
Randy is awesome and there is no book for this class so there is never homework, except to study for exams! However, exams are pretty specific so make sure you know the many details from the power points! He's willing to answer every question and is very approachable but they class can get pretty boring! All in all pretty worth it if you are interested in nutrition.
