There are four required commentaries (4-5 pages long on a fairly long, roughly 30 page articles), a midterm and a final (with an option of a final paper). There are also weekly/daily forum posts (she was honestly never very clear about their due dates).
Parker is distant and very unapproachable. When asked not directly pertinent questions by an interested student, she would give a half-hearted answer and not really respond. When someone would ask a pertinent question, she would talk around in circles and still be unclear. She was unfriendly and when I did go to her office hours to discuss the midterm, both before and after, she was no help understanding my grade or helping me get a better one. Do not recommend.
Professor Parker is very sweet, but if you're not the strongest writer, I don't recommend this class. You read and do reflections for homework, but her grading is very subjective. I went into office hours to ask about how to improve my writing, and I was told that my writing needed to be more scholarly. When I asked specifically what I could do to change my writing, she told me she'd read too many papers and didn't remember mine (out of 15 papers total). I don't think she does a good job of teaching you how to write well when you ask for help. The grades for my papers did not reflect the time I put into them. I don't think I learned very much from this class despite my attempts to, and the class additionally could be very dry. Do not recommend
