This is a hard class but I recommend taking it if you're interested in climate science, global warming, or if you just want a great professor. The readings can be dense and a little abstract but you go over them as a class which is nice because it helps you understand them (you definitely should do the readings though). The problem sets are difficult so if you're an undergrad absolutely work with someone else because it helps to have two brains working on it. Exams aren't too bad but you have to put in the work. I took this class mostly because of Todd, though. He's a great lecturer, he's mildly funny, and he's a great guy.
Todd is excellent! I took this course exclusively because he was teaching it, and I was not let down. This was my second class with him, and he has continued to be an extremely effective lecturer.
This course consisted of one lecture block each week, and one block with a short lecture followed by a student-led paper discussion. These days all had a very conversational style and they could end up wherever you wanted, which was nice. There were three problem sets throughout the semester, which required a basic understanding of MATLAB to complete. However, Todd was super helpful if you didn't have any MATLAB experience before (which was my situation) and the problem sets were all very manageable. There was also a final exam that covered roughly the second half of the course, but it was probably the easiest final I've had in an upper-level EVSC class. Highly recommend this course. #tCFfall22
