THIS WOMAN IS A QUEEN. IF YOU CAN TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER, DO IT. SHE IS AMAZING. Seriously, this woman is a goddess or something, I think she must be from a different dimension. Her aesthetic is amazing (like rustic cottage core lmao, everything I aspire to be), her care and concern for the health and well-being of her students is through the roof, and in all aspects except physical, she is Athena, or Aphrodite, or something like that. I really don't have the words to describe her, so just take the class and see for yourself.
This class really isn't too much work, and if you write your poems on time and turn them in, and contribute to class discussion, you basically have an A. There's one "quiz" in the class, but I think everyone gets a 100% on it and she literally went through the questions with us prior to giving us the quiz because it truly was more diagnostic than anything. The poems that Mary Clare has you read are well-selected, and I loved doing the readings for the class and would frequently read ahead or write my poems super far in advance. She has so much compassion for your writing and any work that you turn in she will treat extremely well if that makes sense. Her feedback is always super nice but also constructive and your poetry writing skills will substantially improve due to her feedback. I am always super nervous to turn in personal pieces of writing, but I was always so glad that she was the one reading them because I knew she was giving my writing the benefit of the doubt. This also made workshop run really smoothly because everyone felt comfortable sharing their work with the class. She always told our class how excited she was to read our weekly poems, which was just :)))). She talks a lot about how she is from Missouri and it's totally apparent that she's a Midwesterner because she is so buttery kind and hospitable (she made cookies for our class a couple of times, which were, of course, literally the best cookies I have ever had).
