First of all, I’m not sure why it says Spring 2024—I took the course in Fall 2023 of my first year and it was great! Shalmi is super engaged with the course readings and provided us room for productive discussions every class. All you need is to complete the reading and be present for in class discussions. The rest is just reflective work to make sure you understood what you read along with more creative assignments (they’re only as difficult as you want them to be), and I honestly found it enjoyable. The smaller nature of the class helps alleviate some pressure to speak imo, and I got some useful feedback from Shalmi through the one-on-one interactions that the class allows. Aside from just being funny and engaging, Shalmi will really deepen your appreciate for whatever text is presented to you and make you a stronger writer in the process. If the class is open, take Shalmi’s ENWR class! You won’t regret it.
