The SWEETEST ENWR instructor ever. She's so so lenient with deadlines. She can even let you turn in a week or two late as long as you let her know. She's very understanding! If you're not creative, do not worry. You will BECOME creative. Easy-A. Guaranteed. She's extremely nice with grading! By the end of the course, you will be very close with your peers considering that there will be one BIG group project--also an easy A.
I cannot say enough good things about Michelle! Our class theme was DIY, and she did such an incredible job making the class interesting and really inspiring growth both personally and academically in her class. The assignments are open to personal flare, so it never really feels like work. She has help available all the time, and gives ample time and a great due date schedule for the assignments. She cares so much about your thoughts and your effort, I think you have to try hard not to succeed in this class. She's just an overall perfect teacher who genuinely wants to make the class mean something, and wants to see you do well above all else. Rare to find someone who understands how to connect with their students and still keep a great class structure going. The best ENWR choice, hands down. Where else are you going to have such a voice in your own assignments, and have fun? Couldn't complain about her if I tried. I don't see the option, but I got an A+ if that helps!
Michelle is an AMAZING person and professor. She genuinely cares about her students and always encourages us to come to her for assistance on an assignment or for a listening ear. I took this class during COVID-19 (Fall 2020). Both Monday and Wednesday classes were synchronous, but I loved this aspect, as it was easier to become more comfortable and friendly with my classmates. Our theme was DIY, which might initially sound intimidating, but was completely illuminating and so so fun. There were three units with a final assignment for each worth a total of 70% of your grade, and these assignments doubled in point value as the semester continued in order to account for improvement (which I really liked!). There were also weekly blog posts that account for 15% of your grade. The last 15% was participation. Michelle came up with these assignments with creativity as a priority, which not only cohered with the theme of DIY, but made working on them really fun. There were options to curate playlists, craft collages, and write poems, which the majority of the class found more appealing than writing essays. We didn't read any books during the course, just small written works like articles or poems within our theme of DIY (punk, music, fashion, etc.) to prepare for the following class. I genuinely looked forward to going to class every Monday and Wednesday because of Michelle's kind demeanor and the way she designed the course to best suit her students. HIGHLY recommend!!!
