I came into this class not knowing what to expect. I was just placed into it and was kind of weary about the whole adaptations thing. I really fell in love with the class though. The material was very interesting, even more so the discussions we had on it. Nate was great as well, I am sad to hear that he might not be teaching this class again.
Writing wise this class was great too. After writing our essays we were allowed to go back and revise, which was really helpful. I definitely learned a lot about my own writing style and how to make it better for the arguments I had to develop. I also enjoyed when we had small writings in class that didn't really matter too much because they helped sort out my thoughts.
I'll honestly miss this class, it was great. So if this class is ever taught by Nate again it is totally worth it.
Really enjoyed this class. It's mostly discussion, which depends on if you actually enjoy the material. You watch movies and critique them through ~5 page essays. There are 3 essays that are each worth 20% of your grade, and you can revise them at any point of the class. It's honestly great to have this as your ENWR, so if you're a first-year then definitely think about taking this professor.
One of the easiest classes coming into UVA to take. This ENWR was specifically about short stories to film adaptations (so we got to watch a lot of movies). If you are not confident about your writing skills and tend to have good ideas for writing, take this class. My writing improved a lot, and Nate is a super easy grader. Throughout the semester, you can revise and submit essays any time! There are also a lot of Collab discussion in class, but they are really easy and harmless to do. Seriously, this class was so chill, I did not pay attention most of the time but the occasional times I spoke I got my participation grade in so... if you want to have an enjoyable first semester, take this class.
