This class should be called the "Philosophy of Words and Images." The topic of words and images seems interesting, especially with the rise of social media, but in fact, the readings consist of authors talking about the relationship between words and images in the 20th century. You have to do a total of 5 blog posts, 5 blog responses (to other classmates' blogs), and 5 blog reflections. There will occasionally be assignments to go along with the readings that took me at least 2 hours to complete. There are 3 projects for the class that consist of multiple rough drafts, a complete 5-6 page essay, and an essay reflection. He is a classic English teacher in that we (my classmates and I) were never told what was "right" and what was "wrong" which was extremely frustrating. One time we talked for 25 minutes about what a good title for a paper should be, and after that conversation, I still can't tell you what a good title for a paper should be. I would recommend putting yourself on the waitlist for the Harry Potter ENWR where they alternate between reading the books and watching the movies every week. Stay clear of Words and Images.
This was by far my least favorite class of the semester. I personally felt that the professor didn't really teach us much that we had to teach ourselves everything from the readings. There was entirely too much reading assigned too because we'd be asked to read multiple pages or maybe even a whole chapter prior to class, but then only go in depth on like one paragraph in class of the entire 20 page chapter, so it was really annoying because he could have just had us read that one page prior to class. The professor always challenged us to push our thinking which of course is not a bad thing, but it turned very annoying when he made it seem like our thinking wasn't 'good enough' & that's why we needed to push if that makes sense. #tCFfall2021
