I adored having Kelly as a teacher! As much as I dislike writing, this course was my favorite during my first semester at UVA. Kelly is extremely approachable and grades fairly, pushing you to improve as a writer. The course has four essays and a final portfolio, and for each you will have a one-on-one conference with Kelly and peer evaluations. Rally wasn't that difficult of a course and the topic (Writing the Body) was much more engaging than I expected. Overall would recommend!
Kelly is a super nice person and she really makes the class interesting. So if you're looking for an interesting ENWR, I would definitely take this class. However this was NOT an easy grade like most other ENWRs. There are more essays and they are longer than other classes. In addition, Kelly does grade harder than the other ENWR professors. However, she did push me to improve my writing and taught me the importance of writing drafts.
This class was beyond frustrating. Don't get me wrong, Kelly is fantastic and so sweet and great to talk to, but for an ENWR, it was so much harder than it needed to be. She grades essays very critically, and some of my best work was getting Cs. In all the other classes I have taken- many of which had 3-4 essays per semester- I would consistently get A+s, and I am very confident in my ability to write, so I feel as though she just graded harder to make a point that the class wasn't supposed to be easy rather than grading accurately. Additionally, her critiques also seemed like they didn't offer much for me to improve on, and it was like she'd slapped a grade on the bottom of my paper. I'd recommend this class because the material is interesting and Kelly rocks, but don't expect to be satisfied with the grading
