I really liked this class. The topic is legal narratives, which I didn’t know until the first day, but it’s an interesting subject. The readings are short and engaging and you spend the majority of the class discussing them. You listen to a lot of podcasts, too, which I really enjoyed. Professor Guarnieri is very approachable and smart, and she gives good advice on how to improve your writing. You’re allowed to revise one of your papers to get a higher grade, and discussion is a big percentage of your grade too. That being said, it’s very achievable to get an A in her class. I would definitely recommend!
If you don’t like writing many papers this is the class for you but if you actually want to improve I don’t suggest you take this class. You only write 2 papers and receive minimal feedback. You read a lot of somewhat bizarre narratives and have discussion nearly every class where people only speak once or twice to get credit and sit in an awkward silence until the teacher just tells you what you supposedly should have realized while reading the text. Poor class.
Carol is a very good professor for ENWR 1510! Her class requires little work outside of class and is very engaging. You read a lot of people's narratives as well as listen to podcasts about injustices in our country. A lot of lecture is just you talking to your classmates about how the narrator shapes the story to cause the reader/listener feel a certain emotion. I definitely recommend taking ENWR with her!
