This was Elizabeth Fowler's Medieval and Renaissance Lyric class, and it was excellent. The course emphasized close reading of poems in a way no other course on poetry I've taken at the University has, while at the same time offering exposure to a wide array of the most important English poetry. Classes are based around discussion of two or three poems each day--that's really it, along with a final paper written iteratively throughout the semsester. You get out what you put in.
