Professor McGann is a tremendous instructor, while also being a world-renowned scholar in textual theory and 19th century British and American literature (especially Byron). I've found it rare that these things go hand in hand, and in that respect Prof. McGann defies the stereotype. He will meet with students at almost any hour of the day (as long as he doesn't have a previously scheduled meeting), and is really motivated to teach his students how to go about conducting original research. Meet with him frequently, and you can expect to do well and learn a lot. Easily my favorite professor in the English dept.
