This class is VERY fast paced and told me that I did not want to be an architecture major anymore. While I understand the need to prepare first year architecture students for future studios, I think it could have been done in much more organized and productive way. One of my frustration points with this course was that no advanced communication was given, so it was repeatedly difficult to acquire the materials I needed to complete a project. Furthermore, there was a lot of vague communication that led to a waste of time and money. When certain materials are "suggested" know that they are actually required. There was more than one occasion where I bought a material similar to the "suggested" material, started my model, and then was told I could not use that material and had to start completely over. No training is provided on the different softwares you will be using. Never having used these programs, it took about 20 hours outside of class for me to figure out what was going on. In the future, it would be great if tutorials were provided or class time was spent on teaching students how these softwares work for those who have never used them before. You will also be in the dark a lot about your grades. It was not until three weeks after spring break that we received any feedback, making it hard to turn your grade around if need be. The feedback was also not helpful. I had to go out of my way to talk with Kyle about my feedback in order to understand what I was doing well and what I needed to improve on. Kyle also expects you to pour all of your time and energy into the class, often forgetting students have other classes and obligations that require their attention. I was often told to iterate more, which is great, but I, along with my peers, do not have time to come into class with fiver different study models and twenty sketches each class. At some point we do have to start on the final model, sooner rather than later since we have other obligations. This course could use a major overhaul in terms of the pacing, organization, and communication.
