This class is pretty interesting, with a decent workload and interesting course material (I mean, the topic is "Illicit Love"). Professor Spearing is a wonderful elderly British gentleman who lectures well and has insightful things to say. Beware of taking this class if it's right after lunch, however - because it's mainly lecture-oriented, you will find yourself dozing off. Otherwise, it's a pretty interesting, light class and work isn't too hard.

Professor Spearing was, rather unexpectedly, one of my most amusing professors! The course material was very fascinating, for anyone with the slightest interest in medieval literature. In class Professor Spearing offered interesting opinions and anaylsis of the works we studied, and he was very willing to hear what the students had to say, though he did not always agree.

Spearing is pretty entertaining, but he can put you to sleep sometimes. His accent (British) can be a little hard to pick up, so sit close.

Spearing is very nice and seems to be very passionate about the subject, but his lectures are endless and absolutely boring. His grading isn't too hard, and he is very accessible, but the readings are not terribly interesting and very repetitive (read the same story by 3 or 4 different authors).
