I took this class because I was interested in learning how to make music electronically using a digital audio workstation. This definitely gave me the perfect opportunity to. You don't need any musical background, but it definitely helps but as long as you like music, making the music itself was pretty fun. However, it does take time because they do expect something that at least sounds good/something you put time into. In addition, there are readings assigned for almost every class but they are not quizzed daily. There were two quizzes. The first was take-home, online, and open note so that was easy. The second one was in class and it was pretty hard just recalling everything. Overall, pretty interesting class and Coffey is nice, and some of the conversations in class are pretty interesting although there are dull moments. Oh, and attendance is taken almost every class.
Fairly easy class, but don't think it has no work. During the time I took it, there were 5 assignments which required using software to make a song, 2 listening quizzes (identify song title, artist, year), 2 technical quizzes (history, elements of particular effect, documentaries).
Ted is a very nice guy, although sometimes he seems to have a hard time being coherent in what he's trying to say. Regardless, if you don't know a lot about rock, this class is very informative - covering early hip-hop, 40's blues, 70's rock, punk rock, etc. Highly recommend if you want to expand your musical tastes/genres.
