EDHS 4300

This is my third class with Professor Loncke. He is awesome and really passionate about the subjects he teaches. Also takes the time to get to know students and knows an impressive portion of the class by name. This class is pretty easy as long as you stay on track with the assignments and attend class (he does in-class clicker questions for participation points). This semester both the midterm and the final were take home. I did think that the final was tougher than the midterm, but still ended up doing well. The main issue for me in this class was remembering to do the online group discussion. You are supposed to post one contribution to your discussion group each week, with 10 posts giving you a 100. I kept forgetting about it and ended up posting 6 or 7? But got a 90 for the participation grade so I'm not sure how they do scoring for under 10 posts. Overall would definitely recommend this class or any class with Professor Loncke! #tCFF23

Professor Loncke is a very nice man, and I enjoyed having him as a professor. The class is organized into 10 "modules" where each module is a different psycholinguistics topic (e.g. sound patterns, bilingualism, etc.) The class does not require a lot of work overall. At the beginning of the semester, you sign up for a certain topic (e.g. "ventriloquism" or "extinct languages") and then you work with the other students who also signed up for that topic to do some group work over the course of the semester. Most weeks your only assignment for the course is to make a post related to your topic on the group Canvas discussion forum. The information you and your group find and post in that forum then form the bulk of what you all will eventually present to the class (there will be a presentation and then you have to make a website and then briefly present said website). You also have to watch a few 1-2 hour-long videos/films and take (very quick and easy) quizzes on them. Both the midterm and the final are multiple-choice and not difficult. STUDY THE SLIDES. I often had trouble focusing during lectures, but just studying the slides very well got me an A on both exams. The course material isn't everyone's cup of tea, and some people thought it was a little dry. I, myself, enjoyed it as a cognitive science major. Some of the topics were already familiar to me thanks to other classes I've taken for the major.

Amazing class. Professor is passionate and cares about us and our learning. Grade is comprised on a midterm, final, participation, and some little assignments here and there. Easy A if you go to class and study for the exams.

All the information you need is from his lectures, he is a very engaging and sweet professor who cares about his students. This class is easy A if you do all the small work on canvas, attend lectures, and do your part in the group project which is a website (all of which are very easy). Midterm and final aren't too bad and all the info is from his lectures so take good notes throughout semester and you'll be fine. Loncke is the best love him! #tCF2020

This was my first semester at UVa and even thought this is a 4000 level class, it was still relatively easy and enjoyable. He gives small assignments that really don't take long to complete at all, but pads your grade. Pretty easy grader. One midterm and final, I recommend making quizlets. If there is 60 questions, you get a minutes per questions (closed book). Two group projects, but you have 9 people in your group so still, minimal effort, and you spend the first 7 weeks doing verrrry simple research. Pretty fun class. You get points for going to class and he is big on wanting people to participate. There are some prerecorded lectures wire easy embedded quiz questions. He's a very sweet guy who cares a lot about his students. Can't wait to take another course with him. #tCF2020

Professor Loncke is such a sweet, sweet man. He is so fun and caring. The class is pretty easy too, only a midterm and a final, along with group projects. The group work was slightly annoying as it was all online, but the assignments were never too difficult, just a little time consuming. Overall, a great class with a really nice professor.

This class is pretty interesting and easy too! A lot of free points and most of the other assignments can be found on Quizlet. Would definitely recommend regardless of major, I'm a comm major and I found it to be a great class and would retake it. Don't worry about not having any background knowledge in the subject even though it's a 4000 level course, it is still very easy. #tCF2020

Filip is the best professor I have ever had. I am now in another class with him and he is amazing. This class is very easy and the clickers are maxed out at the end so even if you skip a couple times you can still get 100% for attendance which is basically what he uses the clicker questions for. They are also a complete joke -- he will show a definition on a slide then switch to the next slide which is a clicker question asking what the definition/term is. He's also adorable and plays funny music at the start of every class. Also this class is interesting and if you know anything about linguistics it will be innsanely easy and if you don't, it will still be simple. 10/10

Hands down to this professor. I'm taking him this semester again. One of the best UVA classes ever!

Professor Loncke is adorable, I love him so much. That being said, I actually found this course to be more difficult than anticipated. The iclicker questions (which account for 1/5 of your grade) were so simply I went into the midterm expecting the same degree of difficulty and was sadly wrong. I ended up getting an A in the class because there is so much grade padding, but I had to actually study for the final. I would still definitely recommend though, the material is really interesting.
Details:
Group work is about 1/5 of the final grade (group presentations and a website on a topic)
Indivdiual work (including discussion posts, a reading quiz, and iclickers) is a little more than 1/5 (excluding iclicker)
exams are 160 points out of 500 (60 midterm, 100 final) and are multiple choice

Super easy class. You actually will learn a lot if you pay attention, and Prof Loncke is pretty humorous as well. There are participation clicker points for almost every class and weekly discussion posts. Don't forget to keep up with all the small assignments! They add up pretty quickly in the end and can definitely make or break your grade. While this class might not require as much effort or "thinking" as some of your other classes, make sure to keep up and be responsible in handling your group responsibilities as well (your grade relies partly on your group mates' peer evaluation!). He's also very understanding if you accidentally open a timed assignment or missed the deadline due to a personal issue, and he will help you resolve it if you talk to him before class or email him. He's also very good at remembering faces so stay on his good side! Participate in class if he gives you the chance or he'll roast you lol. He's a great professor and he deserves all the respect. Easy A class for sure. Pro tip: pay attention in the beginning of class when he reminds you of upcoming assignments and make sure to do them beforehand. I can't say this enough; KEEP UP WITH ASSIGNMENTS!! otherwise this class will be super fun and a breeze

This class was very informative, interesting and fair. Prof. Loncke wants everyone to succeed and he makes clicker questions and grading easy.

The professor is an awesome guy, and his grading system makes it very possible to get good grades from just going to class and doing the homework

Easy and chill class, learn interesting aspects about linguistics and psychology. Exams are easy as long as you read over power point slides. Clicker questions are about 20~30% of your grade and they are very easy and you still get a half credit if you get it wrong. Very lenient grading. Two presentations, which are not that bad, though you have to write a paper based on your presentations. You need to take a few quiz based on documentaries an movies that he assigns. He has accents but not that hard to understand. Easy A, as you can see on the grade distribution graph.

Not too hard. There are a lot of assignments, but they aren't graded harshly, nor are they too difficult. Make sure you are aware of everything that is due because it can be easy to forget something since there are a lot of little things. I would write them all out in an agenda or something at the beginning of the year. The tests aren't terrible. You only have one midterm and one final. You decided which group to join based on a subject that interests you, and you and your group basically work on that subject the entire year. There are a few individual assignments and 3 movies and 8-question quizzes on them. Pretty easy for the level of this class. No papers, just occasional wikipedia edits.
