Each week you are given a new lab to complete and at the end of the week you write a lab report. I believe in total there are 11 labs. The labs start of easy then get harder but are not unbearable.
You are allowed to work in groups and ask for help so I would recommend that you make friends/ form partnerships quickly because it will help you A LOT later on.
There are no exams, we were given a total of two quizzes. The second quiz was given as an option for you to replace your first quiz grade if you did not do well on it.
The final project which you have complete creative control over allows you to increase you overall grade in the class tremendously. In the beginning I was getting As on the labs but towards the end I was getting Bs and Cs. I got an A+ in the class overall because my final project looked really cool so take it seriously. It is so easy to get an A in the class.
Anyone who gets a B- or less in the class must be a slacker. Everyone I know in the class got a grade in the A range.
This is easily one of my favorite classes I've taken. Powell and Dugan make the class fun and exciting. In actuality they don't do much teaching themselves, but they're really helpful when guiding you through the labs. They genuinely love this subject and want you to succeed.
The class is about learning how to interact with a microcontroller. Most, if not all, of the programming is done in C. Even though this is an ECE course, this class is at heart a low level programming class. You need to manage the memory on the microcontroller, and you'll be dealing with data on the bit level.
The class is mostly lab based, when a single lecture period and a two-class-length lab per week. During the lecture they give an overview of the next lab, and during lab, you plan, design, and program the solution to the problem.
You almost always need to work in groups, so make sure you're prepared for that. Each assignment is a week long, and you must write a short lab report for each one. There are also some in-class quizzes you take on Collab.
The final is a final project that must be challenging. You can expand on one of the previous labs or come up with your own idea. You need to get the idea approved and make a short presentation.
Overall, the class was great and very fun, and I recommend it to anyone interested in the subject.
