This class (American Slavery) was very interesting. Professor Hill knew what she was talking about and made learning about American Slavery interesting. We dove in topics such as Indian slavery, slavery in the North, slavery in the 16-17 centuries, etc. The only thing that I wish we spent more time on was slavery through the Civil War. But overall the class was enjoyable. I read only 1.5 books and ended with an A. As long as you pay attention in lecture and take good notes you should be fine. The grade for the class consisted of 3 quizzes, attendance in lecture, a midterm, a final, and a 7-10 page paper that is based off of only the readings from class. Take this class!
There is a LOT of reading in this class. Do most of it, but you do not have to close read, just get a general idea. You need to go to lecture, because she does not put her PowerPoints online and she says a lot of things in class that are not on the slides anyways. There is a paper, a midterm, two quizzes and a final.
She assigns A LOT of reading. For class discussion, you may only want to know a few certain details as an example and to do your 10 minute free writing at the beginning of class. There are a few essays assigned that you may need to know the content of those readings for, though. Overall its an okay class. Professor Hill is very knowledgable in her subject and a very nice lady.
