This is a class that is really different depending on which section (and particularly which professor) you get. I had Professor Blemker who was really sweet and nice. Most of the "class" happens in Stacey Hall where you build your mockup/prototype. The prompt is basically "build something to help people". The point is to learn efficient group work, start thinking like an engineer, and really learn how to get things done. There are a few meetings in the actual classroom where you learn about marketing your product, a bit of material science, and things that should help you take the project further.
I was a little overwhelmed and nervous at first because I've never had woodshop or anything like that, but DON'T WORRY. You learn fast and there's no pressure whatsoever.
This is definitely a fun, worthwhile class and at the end you have something of your own that you actually created (at least for Blemker's section). Even though the class is over, my group is still working on potentially getting a patent/selling our product. (Isn't that exciting?!)
I don't know too much about the other sections, but there is one section that is all lecture. I wouldn't got for that, take a risk! I'm pretty sure Blemker gives the most freedom for your ideas than any of the other professors.
