The lectures are well given and clever. The readings are interesting. The only annoying part is having discussion two days a week (yawn), but not bad if you get a good discussion leader (I totally recommend Elizabeth Anker). My first of the 300 level Engl series and I had way too much fun for a required survey course.

This is a really fun class. Granted, it's hard to get into especially if you're an English major, and if you're an English major you'd have to take it anyway. But the lectures are well-prepared, with witty as well as meaty content. Both professors are very easy-going and intelligent, making the class very insightful overall. I enjoyed this class thoroughly - one of my favorite English classes of all time.

ENGL 383 is required for all English majors, but is an awesome class for anyone interested in taking English at UVA. Professors Cushman and Levenson are amazing--so smart, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Great books, awesome class overall.
