Professor Aman-Rana was an awesome professor with experience in development economics. The lecture material was interesting. However, the class itself was somewhat unorganized. We were supposed to have 7 quizzes but only had 3 of them, so they were each weighted pretty strongly for 5% of the grade (which is still low). The problem sets were largely based upon readings and lectures, so it is important to at least understand general concepts of readings.
Shan is such a good professor. She has real world experience as a developmental economist and uses a lot of it to supplement the material. There are A LOT of readings in this class, but honestly a lot aren't necessary. She really pushes you to read them, but you can scrape by without most. Definitely make sure to do the readings from the textbook though; the other ones she uploads to Collab aren't necessary. The exams are easy if you show up to lecture and take notes. Her ppts are good, but they are often open ended and you miss a lot if you aren't there ( i know 8:30 is early but try to make it). She is extremely accommodating as well. I forgot to submit the first 2 assignments (you do them as a group and i was under the assumption only one submitted per group... which was not the case lol) and she gave my 8/10s on them which definitely isn't standard practice. The group project at the end is worth 30% so make sure you have a good group. Overall, this course was both relatively easy and interesting so I would recommend it. Definitely make sure you understand the main points of each reading (expectually what she emphasizes) as those are frequent test questions.
